he North Carolina State archives currently holds more than 4,600 files relating to pension claims that were filed between 1885 and 1901 — the so-called “1885 series.” These files contain information on nearly 3,100 men who died during the war and on more than 1,500 men who suffered disabling wounds. In this book, pertinent information from these files has been extracted and collated, to help researchers locate service records and other details on North Carolina Confederate troops.
